Latitude, Southampton, Bellway Homes

Express Utilities supported Bellway Homes with a new development in a riverside community. This village development of 250 homes shows the capabilities of Express Utilities in providing connections for sites from just a few new homes to larger scale developments.

Development: Latitude, Southampton

Customer: Bellway Homes

Sector: Residential

Utilities: Gas

Bellway Homes, known nationally for large, new-build developments, contracted Express Utilities to lay and connect the gas infrastructure to the distribution network for its Latitude development, a mixed site of 250 domestic dwellings ranging from one-bed flats to five-bed detached houses in the village of Bursledon.

Challenging Circumstances

Latitude required a gas Branch Saddle connection to the SGN 180mm medium-pressure main located in the road and 23 metres of medium pressure run to the edge of the site to a pressure regulating installation, which was set up and commissioned. Achieving this part of the infrastructure was challenging: the connection was immediately off a roundabout and in close proximity to the entry and exit of the M27.

Within the site itself, Express Utilities installed the appropriate infrastructure feed of 3000 metres of low-pressure main and the service connection of 250 individual meters.

The Importance of Excellence

For Bellway, Latitude was a prestigious development located in Bursledon, a beautiful village of 12th-century origins on the River Hamble, with excellent transport connections for both work and leisure. Designed to attract buyers wishing to be part of an upmarket location and lifestyle, it was essential that quality of build predominated, and its associated services reflect the overall high standard of the whole. In all respects Express Utilities, with its understanding of the importance of excellence, was an ideal supplier to Latitude.

“When we contracted Express Utilities to provide the gas infrastructure for Latitude, we were aware of the standards to which the company works. It was a wise choice as throughout the project and the substantial challenges faced, right through to the completion, Express Utilities lived up to its reputation of delivering to a very high standard .”
